After Care for Body Piercings
-----------------------------------------------------

Wash your hands before you touch your piercing. Most problems arise due to pierces touching their jewelry when they are not cleaning it. Do not touch it unless you are cleaning it !

Using HOT WATER remove all dried matter from piercing. After all is removed apply a small amount of liquid antibacterial soap to the area. While working up a small lather gently spin your jewelry back and forth through the piercing. If you should feel a sharp pain while doing this process stop and check to make sure all dried matter is removed before proceeding.Rinse thoroughly and do not allow soap to dry inside of the piercing.Always use a clean towel to gently pat dry.Preferably a disposable paper towel.

The fluid that secretes from your piercing is called (lymph) It is natural and there is no need to panic.

HELPFUL HINTS: Liquid antibacterial soap is easiest to use. Also sea salts is available at most health food stores.Do not apply stress on your piercing (pinning it down ).

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: Rubbing alcohol (ineffective), hydrogen peroxide (May create scar tissue), betadine(harsh to the skin), Bacitracin & Neosporin are ointments and may prevent the piercing from getting the needed oxygen required and also may be a pool for bacteria to breed. Bactine.or any of these kinds should BE AVOIDED.

Never remove jewelry if you think you have an infection. Since piercings heal from the outside in.This could trap infection inside the body and may lead to further complications.

After Care for Oral Piercings
-----------------------------------------------------
All oral contact, other than the intake of food, should be avoided for at least 2 weeks. Wet Kissing, Oral Sex, Smoking is discouraged (Just Quit). If you must smoke at least reduce your intake until piercing is fully healed. You can care for your piercing in one of the following ways:
Use 1/4tbs. Sea Salts to 8oz warm water
Rinse after consumption of anything other than water.
Including cigarette smoke.
Or you may use the second method which is the most commonly used.
50%Water and 50% Listerine Do Not over use Listerine
Rinse after consumption of anything other than water.
Including cigarette smoke. Rembrandt Antiseptic
Mouthwash is preferred since it contains no alcohol,
there is no need to dilute.

Healing period :  4 to 6 weeks.

HELPFUL HINTS: Multi-vitamin may speed up the healing process. This works best if taken daily before the piercing is done. For tongue piercings you can take Ibuprofen/
Motrin/Pamprin to reduce swelling. This works best if it is taken through out the day.

Oral infections can become severe very quickly. DO NOT remove jewelry if you think the piercing is infected. This will not cure an infection, it will only trap the infection inside of your body. The piercing heals from the outside in, which means the infection will only be trapped inside of the piercing. This solves nothing. Please contact your local Piercer.
